Premier league team of the year

Chelsea stars dominate the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year – but there’s no room for Cesar Azpilicueta

Eleven players who should have been named in the PFA's Premier League Team of the Year.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been rewarded for their stellar seasons in the
Premier League by dominating the PFA’s Team of the Year.

The two sides leading the way in the domestic title race have four players each in the team named on Thursday while Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United have one apiece.

David Luiz, Gary Cahill, N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard are the representatives for the Blues, while Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Harry Kane all make the cut for their London rivals.

Romelu Lukaku, the Premier League’s top goalscorer, plays alongside Kane up front in the all-star team’s 4-2-4 formation, while Sadio Mane lines up on the flank opposite Hazard.

David de Gea is the sole representative of fifth-placed Manchester United, edging out rivals Thibaut Courtois and Hugo Lloris to be goalkeeper of the year for a fourth year running.

While it is unsurprising to see the likes of Hazard and Kante make the team, many Chelsea fans immediately took to social media to ask how Cesar Azpilicueta did not make the cut.
